“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowline. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

"Sometimes the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn't mean to take." -A. Blount

Hi, my name is Patti and I have decided to start a blog. Frankly, I feel a bit intimidated, but I believe it’s healthy to step outside of our comfort zone (that’s the place where growth occurs), so here goes…let’s grow together!

Life takes us around many corners doesn’t it? And from my experience what we find there is often what we least expect. So here I am , after 34 years of marriage and raising 5 wonderful kids, unexpectedly travelling the country with my husband Roger on his new business (ad)venture. It’s my paid vacation!

Every month we will be in a different U.S. state, staying in out-of-the-way little towns, making our abode at a variety of venues, seeing new sights, and discovering the unique beauty of the landscape and of the people who call that place home.

Will you join me as I explore these little pockets of Americana? I’m excited to share my discoveries with you! Not only do I hope to visit local points of interest, tucked away eateries and historical sites in town, I mostly want to meet the people who live and love and work and play in these small communities and maybe share a story or two of theirs with you.

I have decided to give myself a challenge while we’re on the road! I tend to withdraw and keep to myself in new and unfamiliar places. So, instead of defaulting to that tendency,  I want to push past it and do my best to be a blessing to the people I encounter wherever I go.

So here is what I am going to do: I will seek to be a blessing to someone in every town we visit. I’m not sure what that will look like, but I hope in some way to make their day brighter, lighten their load, give them a shoulder to lean on or simply make them smile. I will attempt to be creative, and I welcome your suggestions!

So if you love small town America and her people, and want to learn to step out of your comfort zone along with me, please join me on my paid vacation!

Keep on Truckin’

MACON, MISSOURI     It’s been fun to drive our “new” F-150 across the country. We’ve never owned a truck before and find to our surprise that we love it (the years of loading 5 kids into a minivan are finally behind us). The 11 and 1/2 hour drive from Ohio to Kansas was a …
